THE MUST HAVES IN TRAVEL ELECTRONICS

Sunday, January 10, 2016

I just booked all of my travel for 2016. Mexico, Florida, Hawaii, Santa Fe, New Orleans, and plenty of wine country time. I know... I like to plan well in advance - it is kind of a flaw - I mean a cool thing. I use timeshare points and frequent flier miles A LOT. Booking in advance gives me the best selection and availability.  Itineraries are easy to cancel without penalty if my plans change.

Because both my husband and I work 24/7/365 and are always connected - yes even on some vacations - I am always looking for new travel gadgets that can enhance my travel experience and my work away from the office and home easier.  I wanted to compile a list of some of my favorites and a few outrageous gadgets to share with you.  This list could go on and on - so don't hate me if I didn't include something that you love.  Just go with it.

Smartphone/Tablet

I tend to travel with my phone and my iPad, leaving my laptop at home.  I just purchased a keyboard and case for my iPad here.  This should come in handy on my next trip.  It makes leaving the laptop behind a little easier.

Surge Protector

Make sure that you have chargers for everything and a travel surge protector.  I love this one - it gives me extra plugs, protection and direct USB ports.  There is nothing worse than a hotel room with one plug when you need four.  Sad face.

Power Plug Adapters

If you are traveling internationally you will want to make sure that you have the correct power plug adapters for the country you are traveling to.  Your American hairdryer or cell phone charger may not work abroad.  There are different requirements in different countries.  FYI Europe does not have uniform power plugs throughout...do your homework and be prepared.  I like these multiple country packs from Flight 001 found here.

Bluetooth Headset

Many of us have blue tooth capability in our cars and don't wear ear pieces any more.  However, I find when I travel, having one is essential.  Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure - having to dig your phone out of your bag when you are in a long boarding line and have an arm full of luggage is a pain.  I love these.  This way I don't have worry about setting up the rental car blue tooth and can be hands free every where I go.

Power Bank

Batteries always die exactly when you need them.  Never have a dead cellphone or tablet again with this great slim portable charger from Viivant.  Dual USB ports allow you to charge two devices at once.  Never leave home without it.

Noise Cancelling Headphones

Lifesaver from crying babies and snoring old men.  Love these from Bose. They are incredibly comfortable and allow you to concentrate on reading, working, or the all important napping on the plane.

RFID Protection

RFID protection is just another layer of security that you can use to prevent identity and credit card theft.  While RFID is not as necessary on the new "chip" cards - I say better safe than sorry.  Here are two great choices that are much more fashionable than wrapping your cards in tin foil.  To protect your Passport use a Passport sleeve like the one found here.  I travel light with credit cards - so I don't need a large wallet when I travel - this is a great choice here.

Some of the Coolest "Out There" Gadgets

Here are some other cool things that you might put on your "wish" list.

Digitsole - Smart Shoes

These are kind of...Get Smart technology...kind of.  Shoes that you can control from your smartphone. They can auto tighten or loosen, they have a light, they can warm your feet, track your steps and calories and more.  They also sell smart soles for your existing shoes.  Pretty darn cool.

The Egg by Eggcyte

This little goody is perfect for avid phone photographers like myself.  You can shoot photos on your phone and then transfer them to this little egg that will hold up to 50,000 photos - freeing up your phone storage.  This way you don't have to mess with the cloud.  It also holds videos and music and can act as a Wifi hot spot, and more.  Great little find.  Buy it  here.

Bluesmart Suitcase

This is on my wish list BIG TIME!  Who wouldn't want a carry on suitcase with a built-in phone/tablet charger, GPS tracker, built-in scale, digital lock and more.  I heart this!!

I hope that you'll find some of these gadgets useful.  When I travel I like to be prepared and organized so that I can enjoy the trip.  Hopefully, this blog post will help you do just that.

Bon Voyage ~
