BIGGEST LITTLE WEEKEND

Friday, January 22, 2016

The weekend is here and I am excited to share my first Biggest Little Weekend blog post.  Each Friday you will find great suggestions for weekend activities - recipes - wine - etc.  It's not the New York Times...because..well..who is?  But, I hope you will enjoy it none the less.  Cheers! FUN THINGS TO DO...

Here are few local events that are sure to be a good time.  Get out and about and enjoy Reno/Sparks.

52nd Annual Sheep Dip - January 22 & 23, 2016.  Nugget Casino Resort.

This 52nd annual fundraiser show, dedicated to exposing the follies and foibles of the Truckee Meadows in an evening of skits, songs and dance, is performed by area locals (your neighbors) along with members of the media and even a few of our famous (and infamous) politicians.  Together efforts go to raise funds that support charitable activities in the Reno/Sparks and Greater Northern Nevada area.  This year the show will benefit Evelyn Mount Community Ourtreach and Honor Flight Nevada.  Find tickets Here.

Reno Chamber Orchestra and Violinist Francesca Dego - Saturday January 23, 2016 at 7:30 pm. and Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 2:00pm.  Nightengale Concert Hall.

Francesca Dego, acclaimed young violinist and Deutsche Grammohon recording artist, performs the famous Violin Concerto by Felix Mendelssohn, and is joined by the RCO Concertmaster Ruth Lenz for a double concerto by Vivaldi.  The concert, led by Maestro Theodore Kuchar, also features music for strings by Grieg and a symphony by Robert Schumann.  Find tickets Here.

WHAT'S COOKIN...

Tortilla Soup

Nothing like a good hearty Tortilla Soup for a winter weekend warm up.  I love this one from Emeril Lagasse.  I have used this recipe for many years.  It is easily converted to feed a crowd. Find the recipe Here. Perfect with a cold Pacifico or Corona or some fine tequila like Jose Cuervo Platino. Enjoy.

Homemade Granola

Homemade granola is like heaven.  Easy to make - but never lasting in this house.  I would definitely double this recipe if you have a granola problem like I do.  Find the recipe Here.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

I heart these cookies.  This is the famous $250 Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe.  I have used this cookie recipe without fail for almost 30 years.  Yummy good!!  Find the recipe Here.

ETC....

I think this weekend we will toast to the San Francisco Forty Niners and their new head coach Chip Kelly and the Oakland Raiders who have survived to live another day in Oaktown.  To celebrate we will break open a good bottle of Tobin James Zin - found Here or a Justin Cab - found  Here.

I hope that the Biggest Little Weekend Blog will help you kick your weekend off right!  Enjoy the time with the people you love, food that you love, and smile.

eat. love. live well.
