BIGGEST LITTLE WEEKEND

Friday, February 12, 2016

Yes - Valentines day is just around the corner.  Oh, the pressure!!!  I know singles hate it - who can blame them.  Everywhere you turn everything is lovey, smoochie, sappy, and sweet.  I'm not sure guys love it either!  Do I buy candy?  (she is probably dieting) - Do I buy lingerie?  (If I buy it too big - it screams...I think your fat) - Dinner out is way overpriced on V-Day - THE CHOICES ARE TOO MUCH.

I am here to rescue you...guys.  Consider this my gift to you.  A little gift guide and some easy recipe ideas to wow her at home.  Cue the music and let the romance begin.

FUN THINGS TO DO...

Wine Tasting

It's a perfect weekend for a romantic wine tasting - the Reno area is blessed with numerous spots to share a great bottle of wine.

  • Whispering Vine - 4201 W. 4th St., Reno or 85 Foothill Rd., Reno
  • Vino 100 - 1131 Steamboat Parkway, Reno
  • Fine Vines - 6300 Mae Anne Ave. #3, Reno

Jonny Lange - Saturday, February 12, 2016 - 8 pm - Montebleu Resort Casino

Sixteen years ago, at the age of 16, Jonny Lang found incredible success with the release of his major label debut album Lie To Me. Fame does not seem to have impacted him from being the same country farm boy from Fargo, ND who got his start in the local clubs of Minneapolis. He survived the passage of youth to adulthood, fell in love, began a family, and in the process passed through the life lessons we all endure. He has a keen sense of what he aims to achieve creatively, what music means to him, and is focused on the impact that his songs bring to the lives of those that encounter his repertoire. For Lang, with the release of Fight For My Soul, he is entering a chapter wherein he has found his true voice.  Buy tickets HERE

WHAT'S COOKIN...

Cheese Plate

This is by far the simplest appetizer out there.  Pair some crackers, with a nice cheese from the gourmet cheese section at your grocer.  Grab a bunch of grapes and a package of proscuitto.  Boom - you are looking very sexy now.  The wine you serve really depends on the cheese you are serving.  I like a white wine like a Sauvignon Blanc or a sparkling Prosecco.

You Won't Be Single For Long Vodka Cream Pasta

I have cooked this for numerous romantic dinners.  It is a winner every time and very simple.  Pair with a simple green salad (buy it in the bag with the dressing) and french bread.  I like to serve a Chianti with this dish.  Find the recipe HERE

Chocolate

For dessert, there is nothing a girl loves more than chocolate.  Go to your local candy makers - ours here in Reno are Sweets Handmade Candies and Dorinda's Chocolates.  Ask for truffles.  You don't need more than two - I love chocolate/raspberry truffles. These are off the hook and best paired with a late harvest zinfandel or port wine.

ETC...

Gifts - I know that this may be the hardest part.  How personal should it be - what does it mean? Here are some simple ideas that might just work for you and make you her hero.

Massage

No one hates a massage.  Buy her a gift certificate for an hour massage or if you want to be really romantic - buy one for a couples massage.

Flowers

Again, no one hates flowers.  I find that Costco has the best deal on flowers. A dozen roses says, "I love you" - be careful with that.

New Girlfriend - Not Ready for Love Gift

This can be a tough one.  *A journal with a really nice pen is simple.  *A framed picture of her favorite pet.  *Tickets to her favorite sporting event, concert, or play.

Well, I hope that I haven't scared you.  This isn't that hard.  Follow my tips and you will do great.  Go get 'em!

eat. love. live well.
