SOUL HEALING

Sunday, November 20, 2016

I have been absent from the blogging world for a while now.  My Father suddenly passed away, while my husband and I were traveling.  The aftermath, both physically and emotionally have taken an immeasurable toll on me.

I have just returned from a trip to Hawaii.  A good dose of the “Little Bird” is soul healing.  10 days of Barbies, baking, movies, coloring, and dress up was truly a blessing.  Spending time with my glorious granddaughter is the best medicine the Doctor could order.

On this particular trip I decided that it was time to pass down one of the many family heirlooms that I have packed away.  It was a perfect timing.

Aprons were always worn in my G.G.’s and Grandmother’s kitchens.  In their day, women wore dresses and never pants. Doing laundry was not nearly as easy as is today. Aprons were needed to keep their clothes clean.  It was a tradition.

Women who entertained would wear fancy aprons, appropriate for the event.  My Grandmother left me several very elegant Christmas aprons.  Holiday vintage at its finest.

My Great Grandmother loved to cross stitch.  She had a simple pattern that she used with gingham fabric that created the pattern for her.  They were fun.  She worked on them all year long and sold them at the church bazaar.  My mother had one, my Grandmother had one, and my sister and I each had a child’s version.

I’m hoping to pass down my love of cooking to my Granddaughter, like I have to her Father.  So, I felt that it was time to pass down a little history too.

Ari is only two – but loves to “make a, make a” in her little kitchen.  This adorable pink gingham apron was made by my G.G. and this Gigi, has now given it to Ari.

Sometimes it is the simple things in life that lift our spirits and speak to our soul.  I encourage you to find your simple things and make your tomorrow brighter.

eat. love. live well.
